The new 2009/125/CE directive, which comes into force on 1 January 2018, states that the European Commission establishes a minimum ecological design requirement for products that consume energy, such as electric radiators. These products generate an environmental impact that we all want to reduce.
The new legislation aims to reduce the environmental impact of energy consuming products by improving their design and performance.
Within the heating market, there are different products with varying degrees of consumption and environmental impact factors. Therefore, it is important to classify these types of products according to criteria that is based on ecological design.
The final objective is to guide the consumer to base their purchase on technical criteria, rather than price or aesthetics.
This directive affects appliances intended for domestic heating with a power equal to or less than 50kW and appliances intended for commercial heating with a power equal to or less than 120kW.
Non-compliant products can no longer be manufactured for sale from 1 January 2018.
The minimum (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, or SEER) varies according to the individual product and the energy source that it consumes. It is expressed as a percentage and is obtained through a formula that assesses different factors and characteristics of the product.
For electric heating, the minimum value must be equal to or greater than 38%. All products concerned from Rointe reach and even exceed this value.
As of 1 January 2018, all products must include an information table in the instruction manual (see below), which show the compliance with the regulations.
